Robs by the sea, Hermanus. We stayed in the Windsor House Hotel right on the beach with a view of the bay, pounding waves. |
Seat shaped like whale's tail, Hermanus. Wrong time of year for whales, but 2 months previously Robs watched a mother and calf near here, and only metres from the shore. |
Cape Agulhas, "The Foot Of Africa". We got here on a dirt road because the map the was wrong (WHAAAATTTTT!!!). |
Sea view looking south, Cape Agulhas. South of here is only Antarctica and the bottom of the world. |

Finally scattering Pa Coetzee's ashes into the sea at Cape Agulhas. He'd been on a shelf for six and a half years... |

The empty box and Cape Agulhas lighthouse. |

Robs and seahorse sculpture, Waterfront, Knysna |

Canoeing on the Knysna River with Justin and Wendy. It was like paddling up a rainforest river, green trees and lianas. We stopped for lunch and swam in the river, blissfully warm water. We decided to try and get the canoes back in good time, but we were paddling against the wind and it was HARD WORK. |

Road to Beaufort West - a long drive through hot, straight desert roads which taper to the horizon, dipping and rising over hills. |
A baby koringkriek ("corn cricket") on Robyn's toe. These insects grow up to 2" long - this one was about one and a half inches. |

Jasper finds the sugar on the breakfast trolley. Jasper's mum was shot in a hunt, and when Julian went to pick up the body he found she was pregnant. Julian did a quick bush Caesarean, but thought that the fawn was dead and so threw it in the bakkie for scrap meat for the dogs. On the way back Gunston, the hunting dog, licked the fawn to taste the blood. That is exactly what a mother doe does to make the baby breathe, and when they got back to the farm Jasper was alive and thought Gunston was Mum. For 3 nights Jasper slept with the hunting dog in his basket, and Jean had to get up every hour to feed him by bottle. That was six years ago, and Jasper is now a fully-grown, frisky "tame" springbok who lives in the garden (when he is being good). He only respects Julian, all other males are a threat and are butted accordingly! |

Jason thinks that humans are his family! In the open
veldt he lags behind, but in the bush he moves up close so he doesn't lose the herd. It's very cute. If you stop for more than a few minutes he moves up close and starts to butt you - that sure gets you moving along. |
Out into the veldt miles and miles from anywhere. We kick up a fire, then settle down with a few Castle lagers and Hunters Dry cider. At about 8.30pm the sun sets, an orange fire in the western sky, purple washes over the mountains, green bushes, mottled sand. A Karoo sunset... |

Sharks! Shark-spotting in Gansbaai, Robyn in the cage. |
Brett "Shark Bait" Ireson looking very relieved to have made it back on board with all his bits intact. |
A Great White attacks the cage. Brett is just out of shot, keeping clear of the fangs. |

Look into the cold, dead eye of Jaws. Duuh-duh.... duuh-duh.....duuh-duh...duuh-duh-duuh-duh-duuh-duh-duuh-duh... |

Cape Town from Table Mountain |

There are balconies on Table Mountain, jutting out over the edge of the mountain. Don't look down! |

Misty Cliffs, Cape Point. |

Jackass penguin, Boulders. There are
thousands of penguins now and they are very popular - a wooden walkway has been built to stop people going onto the beach and disturbing the penguins. It's not intrusive and works well. The penguins nest right next to the walkway. |
